Regarding the quality of the environment in Tikvesh, the biggest influences are the industrialization of the area, the use of fertilizers in agricultural production, the use of artificial fertilizers, and the communal infrastructure. In 1980, the operation of the ferro-nickel production facility FENI-Industry Kavadarci put great pressure on the change in the quality of the environment, affecting all elements, including the human population. With the operation of FENI-Industry, the Tikvesh region became one of the regions in the country with significant anthropogenic impacts on the environment.
However, it is important to note that FENI-Industry is a very complex technological unit that nevertheless has very good equipment and technology as well as an A-integrated environmental permit for operation. The state of the environment in terms of soil, water, air, and the quality of food of organic and animal origin are part of the basic human rights that are shortened here. Heavy and toxic metals in the blood of Tikvesh residents are more frequent, evidence of which is the increased number of mortality from malignant diseases. Managing the processes in the environment and how they affect the health of citizens is important.
The reddish dust in this area is very common. Due to the increased amount of solid particles, most of which are respirable, they directly affect people’s health.
Red dust is especially visible on cars during windy days. The average annual windy days in Kavadarci range from 63 to 112 days. Most of the Tikvesh region has small amounts of wind, making air purification more difficult.
