Bridal jewelry, variable dimensions.

Jewelry is some of the oldest archaeological artifacts that was originally used and is still used as personal adornment, since its primary purpose is to attract attention, while standards of beauty vary from culture to culture. With the development of societies, it began to be used as treasure by its exchange and conversion into currency, as a means of showing the status of the wearer, for practical and functional needs, such as: conveying messages, hygiene (ear cleaning) and work (dancers used it as protection from physical assault and at the same time, as attraction), protection (amulets), expression of religious beliefs, feeling of belonging to a community or group, and during festivities. Regardless of the habits and customs for seeking a bride, every girl is presented with various things, including jewelry, by the groom on her wedding day. There are as many customs and traditions as peoples, and they all have the same goal, a long and happy life. The word “jewelry” means toy according to its origin from the Latin word “jocale”.

469 pieces Circular shapes of different radius made of gourd, which with their lowering represent jewelry or adornment for a bride (brooch, choker, pendant, necklace, bracelet or bangle, decoration for feet, stomach, head, arms, ears, fingers).

The artwork is exhibited at the 14th Biennial of Young Artists titled ‘Awakenings’ at the Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje. The exhibition is curated by Iva Dimovski, Bojana Janeva, and Nikola Uzunovski, and features the participation of 38 international and domestic artists. The exhibition will be open until May 26, 2023.
